This month celebrates the festivals of lights!
From Deepawali to Dev Deepawali.
We lit diyas.
These diyas symbolize light.
Light of the self.
Remember this verse:
असतो मा सद्गमय ।
तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ।
मृत्योर्माऽमृतं गमय ॥
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥
The morning assembly at school always reverberated with this prayer. This hymn seems to be seated deep within. Its meaning gradually unveiling to the conscious as we progress. Moving towards the light, towards ultimate reality, towards immortality. From unreal, from darkness, from death.
Today when we celebrate Gurupurab, Dev Deepawali and Kartik Poornima, we understand their significance on subtle planes. While festive has different connotations for all of us, their purpose is just one: to take us towards the ultimate reality, of realization, of the truth.
The Guru ignites the light that dispels the darkness and we understand the realize the transcendental reality of the world and who am I.
The lightening of the millions of Diyas giving a panoramic view is of spiritual significance. The power to light a lamp and then pass on the light until all are lit. A naman to that light within me and you. For there is no difference. We all are one. Ek Onkar.
And many rituals performed on Kartik Poornima. From offering prayers to Shiva, Vishnu, Vrinda and Kartikey to bathing in the river Ganga.
On this day, as we do always, let’s pray.
O Light: Lead Us to the Truth!
