A Little Act of Kindness Goes a Long Way…

When I am in pain, the whole world seems dismal. When I am happy, everything looks beautiful, serene and simple.

Pain, though, is a beautiful teacher and imparts meaningful lessons. She empowers, equips and teaches compassion and provides perspectives to see life from different angles. Her classes, though, we like to take occasional.

Life gives blank canvas everyday and we colour it with our thoughts, feelings and emotions. I know when I write this, I might sound a little egoist, egotist or may be egocentric, but I know you too are like me, you too feel the same-some days vibrant and some days melancholic.

But can we do something that can make our life happy, meaningful and satisfying always?

I know answers could be many, but today, I could think of this four letter word which can make our life happy, content and fulfilling – to HELP others, because a little gesture of kindness goes a long way, we were taught in school, although, the lesson has long been forgotten.

You might argue, who has time these days? Aren’t we too busy always? Why should we help?

Too high is the professional pressure, competition is too tough and we know it’s time of the survival of the fittest.

Phone call ringing from all the corners, important meetings and mails to be answered. Where is the time to help others?

And what if people take us for granted? And doesn’t helping others require our skills, efforts, time, and bank balance? At times also our strength, effort and courage? And what if our helping nature becomes our weakness?

I know you are right and all your arguments are valid.

But what if I say practice this skill every day and see the results?

Yes, I think helping others could be practised every day like any other skill and we can see the difference in our own life more than in others. I have seen people who practice this skill and to me, they look happier, healthier and wealthier.

To me, more than anything else, helping others is more related with setting the right intentions. This very act of helping others might put a challenge to our personal or professional domain, important is, we do a little act of kindness, if possible, everyday, with our right intentions.

Not big things or great efforts are required every time to help others, but just a right thought, a kind word, a kind gesture, a smile, a prayer, a message, sharing a link, writing an email, or talking over phone, one of these or all of these have the power to significantly help others.

You know I am not kidding.

If you don’t believe, try one of these and see how happy you could feel just by being kind and helpful to others.

February is going to be the month where I am going to be intentional about being helpful to others. A little act of kindness will become part of my daily routine. I know I may feel exhausted, but I know I will end up being fulfilled.

    Beautiful message delivered.
I remember those short lessons of social studies that taught kindness , humanity etc..
And today, all I know is to help n help…
Other thing that I believe is ‘What comes around goes around’
Helping others satisfies me and gives me eternal pleasure..
    Thank you didi:)

      Very true Devanshu.
Keep up your spirits high and be always the way you are, helpful and kind in your nature. Sometimes, you might be taken for granted, but this is how you will build your individual brand of being helpful and kind. Stand up for your values even in the toughest of times, fight with your fears, doubts, anger and ego. Let go of your past mistakes. Be happy in your present.
The world truly needs more people like you. Stay blessed always 🙂

    Wonderfully expressed ma’am.
    Are we really all busy?????
    The answer is clear NO.
It is only Perception that people have developed in their mind.
I’ve never heard if anyone has ever done something that Great&big that they actually had to stop “living”.
Before running for earning money, one should learn the right objective of earning money which is to simplify life(actually daily life) not to complicate.
So why do people pretend to be soooo busyy…
It takes nothing to help someone but Gives a lot.
A person driving the car will not get late by slowing down the speed a bit to let a pedestrian cross the road rather than increasing the speed.
Such small gestures of help can be performed in daily life.
Life is supposed to be lived from heart and Mind is supposed to be used when stuck in a difficulty.
Mind was created to solve problems not to create them.
I Know if everyone starts Helping each other in daily life then most of the problems in will be solved.
If someone feels that there is no Helping environment in today’s world then they are very mistaken because what goes around comes around.
    Very nice article ma’am.
    What a fabulous-february its gonna be 🙂

    • Pratibha says:

      How beautifully you expressed Prashant.
I am extremely happy to find the clarity of thoughts in your words.
Most of the people complain being busy, but being busy has nothing to do with being productive and efficient in one’s task.
On the other hand, we all know that the most efficient people look gliding through life and live effortlessly, leaving no opportunity to help others. We just need to decide to which category we want to belong: being busy Vs being productive.
With all your support and encouragement we can make this month the HELPING MONTH OF THE YEAR, and see how much difference we all can make through our sincere gesture of kindness to help others.
Keep up your good work and spirits high always. Stay connected and stay blessed 🙂

What goes around comes around…that’s well said for Karma and if we are bringing a little joy or happiness in someone’s life ,that’s a great positive karma.

Simple acts of kindness proves that humanity is still alive .I do practice it every time but this month I would be more alert .

Thanks mam for bringing such positive qualities into our lives.

    • Pratibha says:

      Yes Mohit, well said.
Each Karma done with the right intention can bring a lot of positivity in our life. We need to be awakened and be conscious of our each act. The purpose should be pure, everything else will fall in its place.

It’s not easy to change our current selves , and do things with an all new perspective, we might get stuck in a rut, and let the circumstances dictate us, it happens so many times. Not always, not with everyone, but sometimes it does. I’ve seen so many examples, and never ever thought it would happen with me, but funnily it did:)
Well, I’ve realized this, and trying to be better and honest in my actions, it’s not easy, for a first-timer, but trying I am:)
There are so many new things and situations presently, ones which were non-existent few suns back, but there is joy(delight) in those moments, besides the inevitable
    grief:)
It’s hard to predict where each one of us goes from here moving into the future, but I wish it’s a pleasant road for everyone, friends,it’s like we have a limited time here, so doing things that matter to us is the only way out. So, all you readers, get on with those things. Now, I’ve done my bit, a bit of self-expression through writing must relax me.
When there’s no real company, expressing through a blog suffices:)

    • Pratibha says:

Thanks Rubal for sharing this beautiful self-expression. We all are alike and go through same set of emotions and feelings through life experiences. When something happens with us, we understand the lessons better. Grief, pain, sadness in life teach us the true value of happiness. Its like the absence of one thing makes the presence of that very thing more prominent.
So, these little act of kindness reminds us that even our smaller acts have the power to be the sunshine in the life of others. Others pain, then become our pain and so does the happiness of others around us become our own happiness.
Just keep expressing yourself. You are your best company, though sometimes, the blog can also become a place to share and feel connected with others.

  • Inder says:

Hello, nice thaughts Pratibha and nicely expressed too. I read about the ‘Favour Bank’ in a book. Helping someone in need always gives you satisfaction and happiness but apart from this, when you help someone, your ‘Favour Bank’ is credited and is available for your use whenever you require. So there is always a win-win situation when you help someone. Keep Writing..Keep Inspiring…and keep Helping…

    • Pratibha says:

Hey Inder, good to meet you on the blog after a long pause. In fact, I was remembering you two days back, and I can say now that The law of attraction does work.
You are absolutely right. Helping others always leads to a win-win situation and one’s favour bank always remain credited. More than anything else, the happiness, contentment and empowerment that you feel is beyond any measure. Stay connected friend and be blessed always:)
And yes, many thanks for this kind gesture.

      • Inderjeet says:

Thanks Pratibha. May be the law of attraction does work actually. I have started writing a story and had written a couple of pages. I was thinking of whom I can send it for a review and there you are with this article. I read your article and thoght probably you can help me with a sincere feedback ….

        • Pratibha says:

          Hey…that’s truly great Inder.
Please send me your story and I would truly feel lucky to share with you my feedback.
          Keep creating and keep sharing.
          I feel happy to help!
