Happy Independence Day!

Hi,

After writing a blog post of 557 words on Independence day, I had to delete all of it and finally produce this one for all of you read.

It was 10:00 PM last night, I tuned off the TV and asked Anvay to go to bed.

He did what he does. He kept on running from one place to another and then finally broke this news to me.

“Mumma, tomorrow is independence day and I need a flag.” said he.

“Great!” said I.

“Now from where should I get a flag for you at this time of the day?” asked I, controlling my anger from inside.

Replied he, “from the shop nearby, can’t you get it now?”

“It is 10: 30 PM Anvay and now you will have to make a flag on your own, do you understand that?” I said in a commanding tone which he could understand within no time.

Without any further delay and wasting time, the little Ninja was in full action. The time was slipping away and he had to take his call.

He asked for a stick to support his flag, which I couldn’t find. Next he asked me to take out the file holder stick, which I immediately passed onto him. White chart paper was demanded then, I gave him an A-4 size sheet to begin his creative experiment. He was fast, so was I.

Within next few seconds, as I expected, the Picasso was at work and the room was in mess. Water colours, sketch pens, paint brushes, colour plates were all scattered and set for the master craftsman. First the colour saffron, then white and then green were all brushed on the white paper. Soon the glass of milk which I gave him to finish, was converted into water for cleaning the brushes. The Einstein was so much engrossed in his experiment that he turned the glass of milk into saffron+while+ green. What all I instructed, he did opposite of everything, as I expected.

Anyhow, I did my work and he completed his assigned task.

Finally when he asked me for my help, I said, “tell me what do I need to do?”

“Draw the Ashok Chakra,” said he.

I took the colour black to make the Chakra. He advised, “mom, you need a blue and not a black one to complete this, don’t you know this?”

When I started making the spokes of the wheel, he reminded me again, “Mamma, make sure that the spokes are 24.”

I kept on following his instructions and did what he said. Flag was ready when the clock read quarter to 12.

Without my much contribution he made the flag by his own.

I took a deep breath. The flag mission was accomplished finally before 12.

Believe me, I felt a great sense of pride, not because the flag looked great but because his efforts were sincere and great. He enjoyed what he did and applied information learnt in his class room last night. Although, he could not match the perfection of the ready made flags, but with the limited resources available to him, he did an excellent job.

I don’t know if he will be applauded by his friends or teachers, but for me, it was his best creation. He did his best, applied his knowledge and created something of his own, that matters most to me.

And yes, before publishing this post, he read the entire post and suggested the changes wherever necessary. I incorporated them, then and there. He wrote in the comments section, “I like it very much. Please write blogs forever!  Anvay” I captured this blissful moment in my mobile. I felt truly independent!

Finally we two waved the Flag. The clock read 12:00 and he wished, “Happy Independence Day Mom, now I am going to sleep.”

Now I don’t want to sound moralistic and too full of patriotic feelings on this particular day when we are celebrating our 69th Independence Day.

My message is very simple here, if you can’t get the flag, make your own flag. Be independent!

Wherever you are, whatever you do, with whatever resources you have, make and create the India that you want and dream. Be independent and feel free. Remember the father’s words, “Be the change you want to see.” The journey begins from you and me. Let us work on ourselves first and then pass it on to others!

Dream. Work. And be thankful to the Lord.

Express your gratitude to all those martyrs, freedom fighters and great leaders without whom we wouldn’t have been here, where we are today. Today is that day. Don’t forget them tomorrow. Remember and be thankful to them everyday.

Take the smallest of step today and make your India your dreamland. Remember, everything starts with YOU!

Do you believe this? Share with me your views on it?

Don’t stop. Move out of your comfort zone.
Every day is an independent day. Let’s us celebrate this day independence day by taking little action in the direction of dreams showed by our great leaders!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY ma’am, and congratulations to Anvay for this patriotism.
He remind me when I used to make my own flag at midnight.
But I think we should work at least 3hrs more on the independence day rather than enjoying holiday to remind ourselves that how hard our freedom fighters, leaders and current defenses are working and how much we are yet to achieve.
Then only way we can be the Change we want to see in the world.
We are making the worth of hard work done by our national heroes worthless by declaring lazy holidays on their birthdays.
We all need to improvise ourselves now to accomplish the dreams of our freedom fighters. We are just getting started and got a long way to go only in and direction: all straight ahead.
We need to work hard and create a great environment around us just like u Ma’am.
    U are a Hero too.
    Happy Independence day to all.

Many thanks Prashant for taking action and writing your views in the comments section.
If I am a hero, you all are my real heroes from whom I derive energy and inspiration.
Prashant, I agree with you 100%. Work more, take rest and be thankful more for what we all have. The best homage and gift that we all could give to our freedom fighters and leaders is when we can appreciate all the beauty and bounties that our nation is blessed with. Think, reflect and then work harder everyday.
Einstein said that “We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made,” and so said the German Scholar Max Muller that, “if I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India.” We must remember these. When others talk and think about us like this, then what should be our topics of discussions now onwards?
With the biggest demographic power that we have, we can do a lot together. Let’s get started. Take the first smallest step. We indeed have a long way to go!
Wish you a happy Independence day dear!

  • Prashant says:

Yes, the only thing that stops one from doing a good is the mentality what good be his/her single small step. But we should understand the value of single drop in the ocean.
More than 70% of earth is made up of oceans and all of them are the result of the drops came together.
    Than why can’t we.
    Of course we can.

    • Pratibha says:

      Well said Prashant!
In fact, time and again, our history and scriptures have revealed that the single drop in the form of an idea, suggestion, an organisation or an individual, has changed the dynamics of the entire system and nations.
All we need to do is educate ourselves, empower, engage, think, act and take the smallest of step every day. Because big things happen when we do little things right.
