I am there for you Maa

It was early morning. Zephyr was fresh and soothing. They had to visit hospital, her physiotherapy session was due.

She bedecked herself like always. A maroon tie and die suit of cotton with lace and gotta patti work she wore. The mirror work was adding to spark in her eyes. She had put on her light make-up. A touch of kajal and mascara after application of compact. Aum didn’t like her time spending and sitting in front of the mirror; these days, he just let her do what she had always wanted.

Her boxes were all open and she wasn’t able to decide what to match with her suit, perplexed she looked into Aum’s eyes.

Aum carefully picked golden yellow danglers and put it into her ears.

“In these you look pretty Maa.”

“How did you know that I wanted to wear them!”

Aum laughed “I have been with you since ages Maa, I know what you want and like.”

She smiled gently and asked “ Where is my food…after my tea…it’s been more than two hours since I didn’t eat anything…what are you doing Aum?”

Teasingly said Aum, “ You have been hooked to your room, mirror and drawers Maa …how do I bring breakfast here for you, or take you along? Don’t blame me…I am in no mood to listen to your early morning decorum and disciplines songs….please Maa now let me hold you.”

He took her in the lap and then made her sit on the chair. The table was set for the breakfast. Vegetable of finely chopped pyaz bhindi, daal, complemented with plain roti, salad and pickle were all ready. She had been very fond of green chilies and onion to be kept in her salad along with baked papad. Due to her present condition, she had to intake what had been recommended by her Dietician. She ensured to follow her table manners despite her immobility. There was pain in her hand movement.  She strived. Aum helped her.

The food spilled on her suit. She looked helpless. Aum cleaned the food and made her eat and finish.

She suppressed herself,  her outcry and her vulnerability. She succumbed.

“Let’s visit and get ready Aum,” She ordered.

“Change your clothes Maa, you know you won’t allow yourself to go like this,” said Aum.

“I can’t Aum.”

Aum took her like a child in her lap again, made her sit on her favorite neatly cushioned and cleaned chair, opened her wardrobe and picked a light greyish chanderi silk suit.

Katyayani couldn’t stop her tears. She wept loudly.

Aum cuddled her tightly and hushed softly, “I am there for you Maa.”
