Singing for the Soul

The crowd cheered loudly. Everyone was eagerly waiting for the next singer behind the curtains. A sight not to be missed, spectacular and grand, something larger than life was waiting as if, because of the entire set-up. The scenic beauty around the stage was captivating and the clear sky was making it a perfect time to watch the finale. The yellow silk curtains and brocade embroidery with indigenous patterns were making the designs come alive. The nearby areas were adorned with lights and floral garlands. There wasn’t any space left in the aisles, it was difficult to move, and cross and change the seats amidst the hullaballoo and uproar.

Their packets of eatable delights have belted them to their seats. Sometimes the aroma in the packets with the sharp taste was bringing them into a tug-of-war with the performance on the stage. They all were different today, however. They felt they experienced!

The lyric in the muffled tones and the heavy mettle in the course, ballads and epics, melody and music,  acoustics was palpable in the air. One after the other, the composition was swaying the hearts and making everyone feel the thrill — high and low, on a crest and trough of music they all were riding as though. Brilliant it was, the expressions were readable on everyone’s faces.

From the other side, Masters were carefully observing and watching, ensuring, amidst the euphony and symphony they do not miss even the drop of a needle.

And then his turn came.

“Sing, I am saying.”

“I can’t!”

“You can…believe me, I believe in you, I trust you.”

“Ah! Thanks, I know I can sing and you believe in me, this has nothing to do with your belief and my abilities why don’t you understand.”

“That’s what I also want to let you know that it has nothing to do with your talents and skills and abilities and calibre and potential and …”

“And you want to add more …and with my ambitions and with my dreams and with my culture and with my ….with my soul!”

“Just pause. Here you go. Just right there. Repeat what you said, the last phrase…and with…”

“.. with my soul!”

Yes

“Sing with you soul, for your soul knows all, it has always known what is there to be known, just listen to it, just tune into your soul and your words shall find their music to reach to the soul of all…for that’s what music does, it liberates, it connects, it reaches to the core, it touches the heart and the soul and transcends!”

And then he faced his biggest fear of mounting up on the stage. The lessons would obliterate, he felt this time also, like always, making a sneak through the fearful gates of his mind. It is for this, he always avoided the best of opportunities. Today, he took his step in flamboyance. Smiled with a twinkle in his eyes!

There was silence and all sang in unanimity to welcome “Siddha”!

“Sidhhaaaa…Sidhhaaaaaaa…Sidhhaaaaaa….Sidhaaaaaaa….”

His soul’s charisma florished on the stage.

He sang.

Audiences — rapt!
