Wabi-sabi

He looked at the blank screen of the laptop. Time flew for him, he looked at the watch it was 5:27 AM.

The last night discussion with Dorjiee and Sanghya had made him remind his physics class, of Newton and of Einstein equations. It was gobbledegook for him in those days, allured he was always to them. The law of motion, gravity and of every action there is equal and opposite reaction. Physics had somehow not tied him because of the professor, Chemistry he had always loved because of reactions. Masters now were all talking of Metaphysics. He was trying to grasp the concepts. The blackboard of school had come alive. How he would always sit in the front row. “Gravity always works” they were told. Beyond earth, there was zero gravity for him to be explored. The dimension of all these concepts had hooked him again. Pondering he was, when the voice came sharp.

“Aum, are you ready for the breakfast?” Dorjiee asked.

“Yes I am.”

“How was the tea?” asked Dorjiee, teasingly.

“Oh! I just emptied my cup.”

“You didn’t get my question?”

“Great! Oh,” chuckled Aum.

Another arrow from the archery class as if came from Dorjiee, “did you notice?”

“Yes, I did,” boiling a bit replied Aum.

“Just slow down,” adviced Dorjiee.

“How was the tea?”  He had been continuously observing some uneasiness on Aum’s part.

“I asked about the tea and not ?”

Aum winked and said, “you didn’t get my answer.”

The room was silent in the dawn time. His headphones were kept at the table and screen of the laptop was open with the word: wabi-sabi. There was just the fragrance of cardamom that he could feel. A glass of water was kept besides the blooming flower.

Wabi-Sabi, this Japanese word was making him brood over the life’s perfectionism and beauties amidst imperfections of life. Physics and Metaphysics. Life’s Chemistry.  All seemed to be amalgamated into oneness in this moment.

“Ah! Let me put it this way, did you notice?”

“Yes, I did.”

“I was gulping each sip and could feel the warmth, taste and fragrance of its ingredients.  Unlike earlier when I had always been in a rush, I always felt I had no time in the world. I was the busiest. But today I was just with the tea.”

“I prepared it myself.”

“Its temperature, hotness, colour, taste, cardamom, herbs and sugar with milk.”

“Ah! Yes I did feel today that I prepared the tea for the first time.”

Laudest came the laughter of Dorjiee

“Quantity and precision? How about the measurement of each herb?” enquired Dorjiee.

“Haha here you go, I just made it for myself with love!” Curt was Aum in his answer.

“That’s how it should be, after all, a zen mind is a beginners mind and you restarted,” smilingly pointed Dorjiee to his tea kettle.
